Cookie Policy

Last updated: March 14, 2026

1. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help the site remember your preferences and maintain your session. OverTheRoad.ai uses cookies strictly for functional purposes — we do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

2. Cookies We Use

Essential Cookies (Required)

These cookies are necessary for the platform to function. They cannot be disabled.

  • Authentication session — Managed by Clerk. Keeps you logged in and verifies your identity across page loads. These cookies are HttpOnly and Secure.
  • CSRF protection — Prevents cross-site request forgery attacks on form submissions.

Functional Cookies (Optional)

We do not currently set any optional cookies. However, we use browser localStorage for certain client-side preferences. Unlike cookies, localStorage data is never transmitted to our servers.

Browser Local Storage

The following data is stored in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device and is not sent to our servers:

  • Theme preference — Remembers your light/dark mode selection.
  • Guided tour status — Tracks whether you have completed the new-user walkthrough so it is not shown again.
  • UI state — Sidebar collapse state, table sort preferences, and similar interface customizations.

3. Third-Party Cookies

  • Clerk — Sets authentication cookies when you sign in. See Clerk's privacy policy.
  • Stripe — May set cookies when you interact with payment forms or the billing portal. See Stripe's privacy policy.
  • Plaid — Sets temporary cookies during the bank connection flow (Plaid Link). These are removed after the connection process completes.

4. What We Do NOT Use

  • Advertising or retargeting cookies
  • Social media tracking pixels
  • Cross-site tracking cookies
  • Google Analytics or similar third-party analytics platforms

5. Managing Cookies

You can manage or delete cookies through your browser settings. Note that disabling essential cookies will prevent you from logging in to OverTheRoad.ai. Clearing your browser's localStorage will reset your theme preference to the default (light mode).

6. Changes to This Policy

We will update this Cookie Policy if we add new types of cookies or change our practices. Material changes will be communicated via email or in-app notification.
